"Studio Dumbar’s letterforms and scripted graphic animations contribute significantly to the logic and beauty of Renzo Piano’s design for the KPN tower."― Joost Moolhuijzen, architect
KPN, market leader on the Dutch telecom/internet market.
Initiated in 2006, ongoing. Dynamic light wall for a tower designed by architect Renzo Piano.
The building’s architect Piano used technology as the starting point for his design. The landmark site, across the river in the centre of Rotterdam required an eye-catching design.
A semi-transparent curtain wall supports a 3600 square meter grid containing 900 evenly spaced lights that function as pixels on an extremely low-res, yet sophisticated animation system. This ‘screen’ is used by the city of Rotterdam for promotion, and by artists to produce truly environmental art statements.
